The quality variances of other insert baskets, namely the total open area and size & hole distribution, result in significant shot-to-shot inconsistencies and systemic over and under-extraction.

The Strada Insert Basket addresses all these challenges with a proprietary production process and VST Filter Imaging System for quality control.  This results in advanced precision to +/- 1 micron, reduced sediment, and consistency you can taste.  Each insert basket is uniquely coded for manufacturing QC and product authenticity.

All of the holes are fabricated using a brand new micro-machine and finishing process.  They are measured on every filter for min/max range limits on area and diameter to a precision of +/- 30 µm.  Each and every single hole is measured for circularity, placement, square area and for any blocked holes.  The pattern of the holes is centered to +/-1.0 mm and placement is oriented for uniform extraction throughout the entire puck.  Unlike the typical variances of standard filters that range from 50 to 200% of nominal, the VST filter is matched for total square area opening to +/- 5% to ensure identical performance.

The Strada Insert Basket was specifically designed to stand the test of time.  The wide outlet angle prevents the filters from clogging and the anti-wear design ensures uniform performance for life of product.  The structural integrity has been improved, able to withstand deflection from pump cycling without any premature fatigue failures.

Each insert basket is marked with a very unique 2-D barcode to ensure true authenticity and performance.  The 2-D barcode stores the factory measurements, the quality reports, and even image data.


These baskets work in conjunction with the Cafelat Strada/VST Royal Tamper, which has the accepted specifications for VST baskets, 58.35 mm +/- 0.05 mm.

We have physically tested the 17 and 21 gram baskets in the following machines, Nuova Simonelli, Faema, Cimbali, La Marzocco, and all our Quick Mill machines. The 17 gram basket fits perfectly in all of the above listed machines. The 21 gram basket fits the Nuova Simonelli and the La Marzocco WITHOUT having to be a bottomless portafilter. The rest, Faema, Cimbali, and all our Quick Mill require a bottomless portafilter.
