The brand new Baratza Forte Grinder is capable of grinding coffee by weight and by time, combining the features that made the Vario and Vario-W popular into one machine. Having an accurate, consistent, and precise grind has never been easier.

The Forte also debuts Baratza's new bean hopper, which has 20% more bean capacity and a built-in bean stopper. The latter feature allows the hopper to be easily removed for the grinder, keeping the coffee beans inside nice and safe. This new hopper has complete backwards compatibility with the Vario and Vario-W; it can also fit Baratza's conical burr coffee grinders with some minor modification.

Does not hold setting May 10, 2019

This grinder is the perfect size for a home counter and appears to be great with all of its digital gimmickry like automatic dosing by time or weight. It does produce a consistent grind...when it works. However, it clogs very easily and the adjustment drifts over time. When this happens it usually jams requiring a complete disassembly and readjustment. This is always frustrating when it happens early in the morning when I’m preparing my first espresso. This has happened six or seven times. This is a case where more is actually less.

Amazing Grinder January 23, 2017

Everything you need in a great small size espresso grinder. A much better refined model compared to the lower end Vario which I also own and use daily. The only "missing" feature is ability to weigh the portafilter in real time like the Sette 270W (not really needed.) Also great service from the manufacturer (Baratza) on minor problems with several Vario grinders in the past.

Excellent machine December 7, 2014
Reviewer: Tsang-lang Liu from Fairfax, VA United States
I recently realized only freshly grind coffee produced more crema, after reviewed many Youtube demonstrations, discovered Forte AP grinder is the machine could provide: (1) Beautiful design, solid built with all metal housing,(2)Not too loud, (3)Commercial grade in a houshold size, compact with small foot print will not occupy too much counter space, (4)Both weight and time measure methods, (5) Hopper has a locking device to close the beans from falling.

The only trick is when instal the hopper, after you aligned with the metal slot,  must turn it clockwise TO HEAR A CLICK TO ENGAGE THE "START", otherwise, the touch screen will work for "Time" and 'Weight" , but the "Start" screen will not grind the coffee, this is a safety deivce not metioned anywhere, (the manual says "locks into position"), the position is to hear a click.

Any improvement? yes, I wish the plastic hopper is thicker to have a thread locking the hopper lid to air tight.
