The GS/3 MP is a much more manual espresso machine. The La Marzocco is designed to capture the romance of classic espresso production. The MP grouphead - now in its forth version - utilizes a paddle to open and close water flow to the group by way of ball-valve, as opposed to the AV's electronic solenoid. As the paddle is moved to the left, the ball valve opens, and more water is allowed to pass through.

Three positions of the paddle:

Off: The valve is closed and pump is off
Pre-Infuse: The valve is open for water flow, but the pump is off
On: The paddle is all the way to the left, activating a microswitch and turning on the pump that sends water at 9 bars of pressure to the grouphead for brewing

Facts about the Pre-Infusion:

When the MP is plumbed in, the pre-infusion position of the paddle allows water to flow through the valve using line pressure (3-4 bars), creating a smooth, gentle pre-infusion stage that can run for as long as you want before engaging the pump at 9 bars.

When operating off the reservoir, the MP pre-infusion is limited to a smaller amount of pre-infusion. Line pressure isn't present when using the reservoir, therefore only a small amount of water comes out during the pre-infusion phase - presenting itself more as a trickle than a constant flow." - La Marzocco Home

Excellent machine March 22, 2016
Reviewer: Vince from Los Gatos, CA United States
Bought a replacement for my Isomac Tea.  Not going to BS you and say the first shot was better than what I was getting from my Tea, it wasn't.  However, the 10th certainly was and they keep getting better.  The machine provides excellent feedback.  Adjust the temperature 0.3F and you can taste it on the very next shot.  Correct bad dosing and tamping habits and you are immediately rewarded.  This is a very consistent machine and it will either consistently punish bad habits or reward good ones.  The experience is so good that I hardly notice the sore spot in my wallet!

The workmanship, design, tactile feel, sound, are all excellent.  You know you are operating a well designed, well executed piece of machinery when you pull a shot.  First thing in the morning, it is reassuring.

Chris Coffee's service and follow through were excellent (always is).

Incredible Work of Art & Amazing Service December 21, 2015
Reviewer: John from San Antonio, TX United States
I bought the GS3 earlier this year after extensively researching many of the machines on the market.  Given that this was a sizeable investment I wanted to ensure that I wouldn't regret pulling the trigger.  Fast forward to today and I couldn't be happier!  What an amazing, what an amazing work of art handmade in Florence!!!  Family and friends are stunned at how a real latte tastes, often sharing with me that they're frustrated not having found anything comparable.

Matching the quality of the GS3 was the superb service that I received from Mackenzie at Chris' Coffee!!!  She was very knowledgeable and helped me make the right decision for what I was looking for in an espresso machine.  I should also add that she was extremely patient with my questions as I gradually built up the stomach to make such an investment.  Thanks, Mackenzie, and thank you Chris' Coffee for the great service and products that you offer.  I am a lifelong customer, I assure you!

Great Machine, Great Service August 12, 2015
Reviewer: Luis Garcia from Chicago, IL United States
Not sure what can be said about Chris's Coffee Service that hasn't been said already but here's my experience.  I got this machine delivered by the moving company option and there was a small snafu from the moving company.  Although it wasn't CCS fault they immediately took responsibility for everything calling the movers and making sure I was happy with everything.  Kudos to CCS for that.  About the machine, I've had a Expobar Brewtus Iv, Izzo Duetto III and then this one.  The only way I can really explain it is that this machine (the GS/3) just doesn't let you make mistakes with your espresso.  With the other two if I was "off" my game they'll let me know it!!.  Not so with the GS/3.  Even origins that I would not consider good or palatable, before the GS/3  come out great. Thanks to Chris and his crew for such excellent service and a great machine.

Shot-to-shot reproducibility & control December 11, 2014
Reviewer: Steven Black from Terrebonne, OR United States
Bottom line: the second shot comes out the same as the first. And the next is the same, and so on. There is no surfing, no noise, no hassle; just absolute reproducibility and confidence that you are going to get precisely what you want. The ability to adjust water temperature in teeny increments is awesome: yes, you can taste the difference. Our roaster often changes the proportions or constituents of the blend we like, and it is easy to dial in the machine to get the flavors we want.

Other conveniences: automatic timer for startup and shutdown; shot timer; toggle for steam; back flushing is easy. Count the flashes on the clock as a pre-infusion timer.

Nits: blocky design could date from the unfortunate period in the 1970s when Giugiaro penned the lines of such cars as the Volkswagen Rabbit. It is also not entirely without vibration; LM might have made the housing a teeny bit larger to allow more space between buzzy components. That said, we love it and have zero regrets.

Amazing Experience January 8, 2014
Reviewer: Mario Mejia from Houston, TX United States
I started my espresso journey seven years ago with a Breville machine, then, I purchased an Expobar Brewtus II, an Alex Duetto II and finally this work of art.

I will not tell you that your coffee will always taste better and that you will become a better barista with this machine, however, the temperature stability and overall experience is hard to describe in words. The technology behind the famous L.M saturated group, finish, materials, heft and looks are one of a kind.

The paddle experience, steam power, on board timer, PID and the capability for being plumbed-in are excellent.

On top of that, the legendary Chris Coffee service..... :)

Even my wife that is aware of what I paid for it loves this machine.
