Description

An in tank softening pouch for the S1 Dream T and Mini Vivaldi machines. Simply remove the "Oscar" (short for Osmotic Scale Reduction) from the protective packaging, rinse it under some cold water, and place the softener on the bottom of the water reservoir and fill it with water. It is that easy to install.

By means of ionic exchange, the "Oscar" replaces the calcium and magnesium ions present in your drinking water, both in their soluble and insoluble forms, with sodium ions.

Dimensions: 6 inches x 4 inches
Material: Polyester Texture
Functioning: Passive, inside tank

To give a better idea of how many gallons of water can be softened with one of these pouches we created a small chart below:

# of Grains of hardness in your water vs # of gallons of water that can be softened

5 grains of hardness 23 gallons can be softened
7 grains of hardness 16 1/2 gallons can be softened
10 grains of hardness 11 1/2 gallons can be softened
13 grains of hardness 9 gallons can be softened

NOTE: Must be changed at least every 18 months from the date of installation or which ever comes first in usage.

Economical solution that works February 2, 2017
Reviewer: Peter Honig from Concord, MA United States
Because my water hardness was just slightly elevated and the fact that I have not plumbed my machine, I felt that an in-tank softening approach would be the best solution for protecting my espresso machine. The small size of the pouch does not interfere whatsoever with the operation of my equipment.

Prior to ordering online I had a few questions, as I could't find the filters I was looking for on the website. I posted my questions and they were quickly answered. The online service was excellent.

Substitutes well for dedicated softener September 28, 2016
Reviewer: John from Washington, DC United States
I had used a dedicated water softener for my espresso machine. Not possible in new apartment. This product consistently produces water at the boiler that is about 3 grains of hardness.
