Overview
The Rocket Espresso Appartamento 2.0 represents a thoughtful evolution of one of the most successful compact heat exchanger machines on the market. Measuring just 27.4 × 42.5 × 36 cm, it brings legitimate café-grade brewing capability to kitchens where counter space comes at a premium. The 2.0 revision addresses practical shortcomings of the original with a redesigned drip tray depth, RGB LED status feedback, and corrosion-resistant internal construction — upgrades that matter in daily use rather than just on a spec sheet. Built around Rocket's proven E61 brew group and heat exchanger system, the Appartamento 2.0 delivers the thermal stability and simultaneous brew-and-steam functionality expected from prosumer equipment, wrapped in the distinctive circular side panel aesthetic that made the original an icon.
Heat Exchanger Architecture & E61 Brew Group
The Appartamento 2.0 employs a single-boiler heat exchanger design that maintains steam-ready pressure in the main boiler while passing brew water through an internal coil for temperature-controlled extraction. This configuration allows you to pull shots and texture milk without the wait times inherent to single-boiler switching, though it requires a brief flush to bring brew temperature into optimal range — a standard practice for this class of machine. The commercial-pattern E61 group head provides substantial thermal mass and passive preheating of incoming water through its thermosiphon circulation system, contributing to shot-to-shot temperature consistency that rivals far more expensive equipment.
The E61's mechanical pre-infusion gradually introduces line pressure to the coffee puck through cam-operated valve actuation, reducing channeling risk and improving extraction uniformity with light roasts and finely-ground coffees. This passive system requires no programming or adjustment — pre-infusion duration is determined by your lever actuation speed, giving you tactile control over this critical brewing variable.
RGB LED Status System
Version 2.0 introduces RGB LED status indicators that provide real-time feedback on machine state — a functional upgrade over the original's minimal interface. The lighting system communicates water reservoir level, boiler temperature status, and operational readiness through color-coded signals visible from across the room. This seemingly minor addition proves valuable in daily workflow: you know at a glance whether the machine has reached brewing temperature during morning warmup, or when the water reservoir needs refilling before you've committed to pulling a shot. The implementation is discreet rather than garish, integrating into the machine's existing design language without the overwrought aesthetic of gaming peripherals.
Revised Drip Tray Capacity
The 2.0's deeper drip tray directly addresses one of the original Appartamento's few practical limitations. The increased depth accommodates taller vessels — including standard latte glasses and larger ceramic mugs — under the group head without requiring the drip tray to be removed or a separate platform to be introduced. This matters more than it might appear: the ability to brew directly into your serving vessel eliminates an unnecessary transfer step, preserving crema presentation and reducing workflow friction when you're making milk drinks back-to-back. The revision maintains the machine's compact footprint while solving a real-world ergonomic issue that affected daily use.
Corrosion-Resistant Internal Structure
Rocket has redesigned the Appartamento's internal frame and component mounting with corrosion-resistant materials that extend service life in environments with hard water or high humidity. While the stainless steel exterior was never the concern, the internal structure of the original version used materials that could deteriorate over years of exposure to heat, moisture, and mineral deposits. The 2.0 revision upgrades these hidden components — not the kind of change that shows up in marketing photos, but the sort of engineering decision that determines whether a machine remains reliable after a decade of daily use. Combined with the 2.5-liter water reservoir capacity, this internal durability makes the Appartamento 2.0 legitimately suitable for light commercial applications where space constraints would otherwise force a compromise in equipment quality.
Compact Footprint & Design Execution
The Appartamento 2.0 maintains the 27.4 × 42.5 × 36 cm footprint that made the original viable for apartment kitchens and small café counters, but Rocket now offers expanded customization through various side panel finishes and accent colors. The signature circular side inserts remain the defining visual element — a design choice that creates recognizable silhouette while serving the practical function of providing structural rigidity to the compact chassis. The stainless steel construction employs commercial-grade materials throughout, not the thin-gauge steel or plastic components found on entry-level machines attempting to mimic prosumer aesthetics. This is equipment built to withstand the thermal cycling and mechanical stress of multiple daily uses over years, not a domestic appliance styled to look like professional gear.
Eco Mode
Now equipped with an Economy (ECO) Mode the Rocket Appartamento espresso machine is even better than ever! Make sure your machine is at the ready with just a lift of a lever. To enable ECO Mode on the Appartamento, there is a simple on and off button on the right bottom-front of the machine toward the front foot nearest to the brew (cam) lever.
When the button is pressed in, your Rocket Appartamento will automatically shut down after 90-minutes or 1.50-hours. To re-engage the heating element i.e. start the machine back up, just lift the brew (cam) lever, and the Appartamento will start right back up!
During bench testing, we will not automatically turn on the ECO Mode. For more information, check the supplemental manual included with your machine.
